Keto Cottage Pie

Keto Cottage Pie

This Keto Cottage Pie was a simple hack. We merely replaced the potatoes in a traditional recipe with our Cauliflower Mash that's a dead ringer for the mashed potatoes. Isn't this a Shepherd's Pie you ask? Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb, while Cottage Pie is made with minced or ground beef. As always, you can't rely on this video to successfully master the dish.

Step 1

Add oil or ghee to a 3-quart pot or dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the veggies and then the spices and sugar-substitute. Stir thoroughly then add the ground meat and continuing cooking, lightly browning the beef.

Step 2

Then deglaze the pot with the wine and follow with the stock. Then the tomato paste and herbs. Continue to cook and stir allowing the sauce to thicken. Make sure the carrots are cooked but still firm. Then remove from the cooktop.

Step 3

Spoon the meat and sauce into 12 to 14 oz ramekins or oven-safe soup bowls. Leave about 3/8 in (1 cm) of space at the top. Cover the mixture with a spoonful or two of the cauliflower mash (faux mashed-potatoes). Smooth the cauliflower mash out and totally cover the meat mixture.

Step 4

Garnish with fresh strawberries and serve with coffee or tea.

Step 5

Remove the ramekins and let them cool for a couple of minutes until they can be handled. Place the ramekins or bowls on a cloth napkin on a plate or shallow bowl. Garnish with fresh herbs or chives.

Notes

Do you know the difference between a Cottage Pie and Shepherd's Pie. As the name implies, a Shepherd's Pie is made with ground or minced lamb. A cottage pie uses beef instead of lamb.
